Carbon Investment: aDryada visits Osun State

At the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) session of the UNFCCC in Dubai in 2023, the National Council for Climate Change (NCCC) and the consortium of Noblesse Green Energy/aDryada signed a Carbon Investment Project, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance carbon sequestration in Nigeria, with Osun State (reforestation of 20,000 hc) and Cross River State (57,000 hc of mangrove restoration). The Carbon Investment Project is expected to generate multiple co-benefits for the environment, the Nigerian economy, and society at large.

aDryada arrived in Nigeria on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, for a four-day working visit to survey the sites and meet with various state executives, local government officials, local communities and stakeholders.

On Monday, the 25th of March, Team aDryada, Noblesse Green Energy, the National Council for Climate Change (NCCC) representatives from Abuja, and the Representative of the Presidency visited Osun State. The team's first stop was the Office of the Commissioner for Environment, where they held a closed session with the Commissioner, the Perm Secretary of Environment, and other top government functionaries. The next stop was at the governor’s office, where a town hall-style meeting was held with state executives, state and local government officials, Royal fathers, stakeholders, and representatives of local communities. His Excellency, Senator Adeleke, the executive state governor, presented gifts to the investors from aDryada and Noblesse Green Energy. The team later visited the Ago-Owu Forest Reserve to survey the site, where they met with local stakeholders within the community before returning to Lagos. The one-day visit to Osun State was a success. The Osun State government sent a clear signal to investors and the Nigerian community that it was open and ready for business development regarding the environment, reaffirming the state's pro-climate action commitment.
