Industry experts to discuss farmland investment and agri-business investment trends and strategies, including provincial investment policies

OTTAWA, CANADA--(Marketwire - June 22, 2011)--Again this year, leading experts in Canadian farmland investment and agri-business investment will meet at the Canadian Farmland & Agri-Business Investment Seminar. The one-day seminar, which brings together private investors, managers, policy makers and agri-business professionals, is being held at the Gardiner Museum in downtown Toronto, Ontario on September 22, 2011.

Sponsored by Bonnefield Financial and the Farmland Investor Letter, seminar participants will discuss global and local factors affecting Canadian farmland investment and agri-business investment trends and strategies. Session speakers will also look at Canada's federal and provincial agricultural policies and their effect on Canadian farmland investing, agriculture investing, farmer operators and agri-businesses.

"Canadian farmers need capital to innovate and grow to compete in the international marketplace and help feed an increasingly hungry world," says Tom Eisenhauer, president of Bonnefield Financial, which provides private equity financing to Canadian farmland and agri-businesses. "The good news is that farmers, producers, policy makers and academics are beginning to understand the importance of attracting more investment in order to spur agricultural innovation and growth in Canada. That's what this seminar is all about."

A partial list of speakers presenting at this year's Canadian Farmland & Agri-Business Investment Seminar include:

  • Dr. Brent Gloy: Associate professor and director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture at Purdue University. He also serves as director of research for the Center for Food and Agricultural Business
  • David McInnes: President and CEO of the Ottawa-based Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI)
  • Dr. David Sparling: Professor and chair of Agri-Food Innovation and Regulation at the Richard Ivey School of Business
