Pakistan offers free farmland to Japanese tsunami victims

TOKYO: Pakistan is ready to offer free agriculture land to Japanese farmers who lost their crops and land in the March earthquake and tsunami, Tariq Puri, chief executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) said in a meeting with Japanese officials.
Japanese farmers could grow all the crops they want in Pakistan and re-export the produce to Japan without any conditions, Puri said during a meeting with the Japan’s Vice Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Shuji Yamada in Tokyo.
“This offer is exclusively for the earthquake and tsunami victims from the government of Pakistan,” the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan chief said.
The Japanese farmer would bring the technology to Pakistan, which would help Pakistan to increase its agriculture growth and also increase the Pakistani export to Japan, Puri said.
Shuji Yamada appreciated the Pakistani offer.
He acknowledeged the cordial trade and political relations that exist between Pakistan and Japan.
Yamada lauded the efforts of the Pakistani community in the relief and rehabilitation work after the March catastrophe.
The Pakistani officials requested the Vice Minister of Agriculture to help lift the ban on the Pakistani Kinno.
The Japanese government has recently allowed the import of Pakistani mangoes while restriction remains on the Pak kinno.
Yamada said that he would discuss the issue of Pakistani mandarin with the Prime Minister of Japan.
