Matala administration makes available 20,000 hectares for agriculture
Matala — Over 20,000 hectares of land have been made available for national and foreign entrepreneurs interested in investing in the agricultural sector in Matala Municipality, southern Huila Province, informed on Monday the Matala administrator, Miguel Vicente.
Speaking to ANGOP, after carrying out a field visit to the irrigated perimeter of Matala, Miguel Vicente said that the municipality has arable lands and abundant water sources, reason the authorities are inviting entrepreneurs to invest in the locality.
He went on to say that this move is part of a project of the Matala administration aimed to boost agricultural production, with emphasis on cereals.
Miguel Vicente also explained that there is a commitment to creating conditions for these investments to produce financial profits, reason why the government is also focussing on repairing the hydroelectric dam of Matala, whose first stage is already concluded.
He then emphasised that the irrigation canal, with an extension of 42 kilometres, will help to boost agriculture in the Matala.

An agricultural sector company from the Netherlands will support farmers in the irrigated area of Matala, in Angola’s Huila province, in the production of potatoes on a large scale, said Monday the president of the 1 de Maio Cooperative.
Victor Fernandes also told Angolan news agency Angop that this was a private initiative, and for the first phase over 100 hectares would be prepared for potato production.
The company, which Fernandes did not identify, is currently doing a survey of equipment for potato production, especially of irrigation equipment that is obsolete and must be replaced.
The president of the cooperative also said that the European company would provide seed and fertilizers and support the marketing of the final product both in Angola and abroad.
The 1 Maio cooperative explores more than 7,000 hectares of irrigated area in Matala, which produces more than 150,000 tons of food per year, including vegetables, tubers and cereals.
