SOCFIN Pays Le 379 Million Land Lease

Socfin Agricultural Company, Sierra Leone Limited has on Monday 4 th November 2019 made payment for land lease of Zone “B” area as per the lease agreement between the lessee and the govt of Sierra Leone for the period 5th December 2019 to 5th December 2020 .

The area of Zone ” B” is 15 ,491 .49 acres by 2.50 USD / acre = USD 38 ,729 to 379 ,545 ,000 Leones at the commercial bank exchange rate which was witnessed by journalists, CSOs ,local chiefs and govt representatives including the Pujehun District Officer, Chief Administrator, Pujehun Local District Council, ,heads of the military and police ,the Pujehun District Agriculture Officer ,ONS amongst various others

Speaking on behalf of Hon PCBVS Kebbie of Malen Chiefdom ,the Chiefdom Speaker SR Moiguah referred to Socfin as God’s given golden opportunity ever in the history of Pujehun District and encouraged govt of President Bio to remain supportive of Socfin adding that with Socfin every tangible development is possible and therefore called on the people of Malen Chiefdom to continue to embrace the company which has changed the development narrative from grass root to higher height.

The Chiefdom Speaker further lavished praise adjectives on true land owning families, govt and other relevant stakeholders for their selection of Socfin which he says is here to stay .

Speaking further the Chiefdom Speaker described Socfin as an iconic investor will total commitment to continuous improvement in key areas of activities noting that Socfin has successfully engaged into creation of wealth which aimed at benefitting the local communities.

Concluding Chief Moiguah gave a lineup of CSR since been done by Socfin across the Chiefdom inclusive of providing scholarships to succeeful BECE candidates , cultivating rice farms for Upper and Lower Malen, profusely assisting in the health sector , constructed roads,  in and outside the Chiefdom , providing toilets and water Wells amongst many others

For their parts various representatives of govt reassured Socfin of Govt’ every support to the management and staff of Socfin.

Of particular interest all other stakeholders encouraged land owning families and the workers to continue to cooperate and hold Socfin in higher esteem.

For their parts the heads of the military and the police promised to live up to expectations in their efforts in providing security for an all out peace while encouraging all and sundry for a win win situation, noting that no meaningful development can take place without peace  . The above payments follows payments to Zone A and C and D which forms part of the annual payments in response to the agreement between the lessee and the government of Sierra Leone

Speaking ahead of the payments, the General Manager Mr Philip Tonks reassured journalists of Socfin’ s comprehensive commitment to transparency, compliance to applicable laws and regulations.

Similarly speaking in a joint nationwide broadcast marking their recent ” Home Coming visits both Shareholders cum Board members, Mr Gerben Haringsma and Mr Johan Michaels spoke of long term economic and financial viability ,use of appropriate best practices, environmental responsibility and conservation of natural resources and biodiversity , responsible consideration of employees and individuals and community people
particularly for land owning families.
