The Saskatchewan Government has made regulatory amendments to ensure Saskatchewan farm land is not owned by foreigners or corporations, and has removed an exemption that allowed the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to own land.
Chilean farmland investor Toesca and its London-based partner Astarte Capital Partners host an inaugural conference, with presentations from Nuveen Capital and Chile's public pension fund AFP.
DMCI President Isidro Consunji said the family's agriculture business was developing a 12,000-hectare African palm oil plantation in Negros Occidental, as well as a partnership with Japan's Marubeni and UP Los Baños to plant 1.5 million trees across 15,000 hectares for carbon credits.
