Israel has asked Russia's republic of Tatarstan to lease 1.5 million hectares of its land, said a visiting Israeli businessman on Friday.

President of Israeli International Association of Businessmen Leonid Litinetsky made the request when paying a business visit to the republic in Volga region.

Litinetsky said Israeli businessmen would use the leased land for agricultural production, introducing innovation technologies, processing plant-growing products and cattle-breeding.

"Put out products may be supplied to Tatarstan's markets and neighboring regions of Russia," he said as quoted by the Itar-Tass news agency.

According to the report, the regional agriculture ministry was currently considering the request.

The main industries of Tatarstan were petrochemical and machine building. The republic's leader Rustam Minnikhanov believed Tatarstan "needs modern technologies, equipment, including in the sphere of plant-growing, systems of irrigation."
