Groups petition the World Bank, US and Netherlands to support an independent investigation into human rights abuses committed against dozens of vulnerable people in Kiryandongo District, western Uganda, by agribusiness company, Agilis Partners.

Tree planting in Africa is said to help save the climate and fight poverty, but silently, it is resulting in hunger and poverty. Farmers in Uganda have had enough. They're cutting down climate trees - and turning them into coal.
Residents of Pader Sub-county are protesting the allocation of 2,611 acres to Panacea Agribusiness Ltd, saying that more than 3,000 farmers in the area will have nowhere to grow their crops.
The cancellation of the title followed a public outcry that it was illegally issued to two individuals, as well as another suspension of a 2,300 ha land title in the same district that had been claimed by Terra Agri Solutions Ltd for a commercial farm.
The Mount Kei project seeks to reforest degraded lands in Uganda with a mix of teak on 18,000 hectares and indigenous tree species on 20,000 hectares. The teak will be harvested for construction material, while the rest of the project will generate carbon credits.
Witness Radio has documented 181 cases of arbitrary arrests, detentions, imprisonments, disappearances, and other retaliatory attacks, highlighting a concerning trend in Uganda’s agricultural sector, which is marked by a significant increase in violent and retaliatory attacks and detentions.
