As food insecurity continues to affect over 280 million people across the African continent, new initiatives are emerging that aim to transform agricultural production at scale. Among them is African Food Security (AFS), a New York-based agribusiness company now operating expansive farms in Africa with a stated commitment to sustainability and local development.

According to the United Nations, over 36 million people are struggling to meet their basic food needs, a number projected to rise to over 52 million during the June–August 2025 lean season, including almost three million in emergency conditions (IPC4) and 2,600 people in Mali at risk of facing catastrophic hunger (IPC5).

Il est désormais clair qu’African Agriculture ne tiendra pas ses promesses de « développement » de la région. Sur son lit de mort, l’entreprise doit restituer ses terres aux communautés du Sénégal, du Niger et de Mauritanie.
