Kaduna, China sign $450m deal to boost food security

FIC Report (Kaduna State) – The Kaduna State has secured a $450 million agricultural investment with the Chinese government to establish the Nigeria–China Poultry Project — a landmark initiative expected to create over 350,000 jobs, boost food security, and accelerate industrial growth.
In a statement by the Kaduna State Ministry of Information Kaduna state said the project would make Kaduna the pilot host state and deepen economic cooperation between Nigeria and China in the agricultural sector.
According to the statement Kaduna State is set to host the pilot phase of the landmark Nigeria–China Poultry Project, a transformative $450 million agricultural investment designed to boost food security, create jobs, and accelerate industrial growth.
According to the ministry, construction will begin in December 2025 and will cover 10,000 hectares for maize, soybean, and poultry production.
The project’s key highlights include an investment value of $450 million and a project scope covering 10,000 hectares for maize, soybean, and poultry production.
It is expected to create 50,000 direct and over 300,000 indirect jobs, with construction set to commence in December 2025.
It further stated, the economic benefit of the project is to strengthen food systems, boost agro-industrial output, and cement Kaduna’s leadership in agriculture.
It is aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund and will promote skills transfer, rural development, and community prosperity.
Governor Uba Sani, who met with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and the leadership of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership, described the agreement as “a defining stride in Kaduna’s quest for global investment and agro-industrial excellence.
He thanked President Bola Tinubu for selecting Kaduna as the pilot state, reaffirming that agriculture remains central to the state’s economic recovery and job-creation agenda.
Ambassador Dunhai commended Kaduna’s investor-friendly environment, while the NCSP Director-General, Joseph Tegbe, lauded the state for allocating 7,000 hectares of land for the project’s immediate take-off.
