The Republic of Congo has become the latest African nation to give over land to foreign farmers.
Under the deal, 2,000 square kilometres will be leased to farmers from South Africa for 30 years, with an option to extend after that.
The Congolese Agriculture Minister, Rigobert Mabundu, said the deal would reduce dependence on food imports, but what are the wider implications of this land deal and others like it?
Peter Ndoro spoke to Dr Yao Graham, coordinator of Third World Network-Africa, a development agency, and began by asking whether these deals really transfer technical expertise to locals.
