Visiting Sudan official hails Qatar’s support

Doha: The Advisor of the Sudanese President Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail hailed the Qatari leadership’s support to Sudan and described the Qatari-Sudanese relations as “ distinctive and developed”, noting the common vision to enhance them in all fields.

In a press statement issued here yesterday, the Sudanese official highlighted the various Qatari investments in Sudan, where a number of Qatari banking and real estate corporations are operating, referring to Qatar National Bank (QNB) and Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company. During his current visit to Qatar, Dr Ismail is scheduled to brief the Qatari officials on a number of projects on food security and agricultural, which would, involve the two countries and ensure food security for both of them with the possibility of overseas export to fill the food shortages afflicting the Arab region and abroad.

On the role of Qatar in the Darfur issue and the postponement of peace talks for next November, Dr Ismail said that Qatar is exerting all efforts in collaboration with the UN/AU chief mediator Djibril Bassole, referring to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud’s previous visit to Paris.

On the postponement of talks, the Sudanese official said that Sudan was not responsible of the delay as there were attempts to persuade all factions to participate in the next round of talks. He referred to the general improvement Darfur is now experiencing in all areas and stressed the need for taking advantage of the situation to further the political dialogue process and achieve a solution for the Darfur crisis.
