Proposal to extend moratorium on farmland purchases before Commission

The Internal Market and Services Directorate General (DG MARKT) has made a written proposal to the European Commission to approve a request by Hungary to extend its moratorium on purchases of farmland by foreigners for another three years until 2014, MTI learnt on Thursday.
The Commission has not officially decided on whether to accept Hungary's request on extending the moratorium, a spokesman for the body told MTI.

The website of a regional television broadcaster in Hungary said on Wednesday that an extension of the moratorium had already been decided on by the Commission, citing sources in the farm ministry.
