The United Arab Emirates plan to invest in agriculture and processing of agricultural projects in Angola, the Angolan Economy Minister, Abraão Gourgel, said Tuesday in Luanda at the end of a meeting with the UAE Foreign Affairs Minister.
“Sheikh Abdallah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan told me that they plan to invest in food production,” noted Gourgel, adding that in the UAE there are companies with vast experience in the agricultural sector.
The Angolan Economy minister also said that he would visit Dubai next April, to take part in an investment forum and noted that business plans would move ahead following a general agreement signed by the two countries at that time.
Minister Gourgel said that the UAE Foreign Minister had said that he would like to see Angolan airline Taag increase the number of flights it offers to Dubai, in order to boost two-way relations.
At a meeting with Angola’s Oil Minister, Botelho de Vasconcelos, Sheikh Abdallah Bin Zayed Al Nahyansaid his government was interested in encouraging private UAE companies to set up partnerships with Angola oil sector companies.
Angola’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Georges Rebelo Chicoti, said that UAE embassy in Angola may be opened this year.
The minister also said that technical teams from both countries were expected to meet to draw up a general cooperation agreement, which may be signed before the end of the year.
The United Arab Emirates border Oman and Saudi Arabia and the seven emirates are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah, and their capital is Abu Dhabi.
