Schroder Investment Management is planning to launch an Agricultural Land fund, aimed at exploiting the long term returns from agricultural land brought on by the growing demand on its use and productivity.

Schroders said it intended to bring the closed-end offering to investors on the London Stock Exchange in September.

It will target global agricultural land and land related industries through investment in private equity companies, farm management businesses and related funds.

Approximately 25 per cent of the trust will invest in agricultural land related equities and commodities.

It will be run by fund manager Mark Bridgeman, who will be backed-up by a special investment committee. Internal specialists from Schroders with property, private equity and agricultural knowledge will sit on the panel, as well as external agricultural practitioners.

The fund will target a net return of 10-15 per cent a year over a 5-10 year investment period.
