Mwanza regional commissioner Evarist Ndikilo has advised Kilombero district residents in Morogoro region not to fear investors as they boost development in the district.

RC Ndikilo, who before his appointment was the district commissioner, said this during a farewell function organised to thank him for the five years he was DC in Kilombero district recently.

He said it was not easy for a place to develop without both internal and external investors.

He noted that during the five years he was Kilombero DC, there was cooperation, which pushed development of different sectors such as agriculture, education and infrastructural development.

He said the promises made by President Jakaya Kikwete during his visit in the district of bringing agro-inputs, such as fertilisers and insecticides, were based on cooperation demonstrated by both the people and district leaders.

It was for that reason, he said, the Kilombero River basin was declared one of the major rice producing areas in the country besides Ulanga and Rufiji districts.

Ndikilo said during his time as DC, he divided the district into five investment zones - Kidatu to Mangula was for sugar cane agriculture, Ifakara for big investors through the centre that was constructed in Lungongole area, all of which helped improve the economy of the district.

The other zone was Ruipa that covers Idete, Mofu and Mbingu wards where a big sugar factory will be constructed in the near future, as the area is very good for sugar growing.

The other zone that he had identified was Mngeta division that covers Mngeta and Mchombe wards where there is a big rice plantation belonging to a rice growing company, KPL.

The other zone is Chita that covers Melela basin where rice growing has been going on and Utengule area where Chinese investors have directed their resources.

He said the zones were designed to act as the road map for development and if continued then it would help the district develop faster and contribute to the growth of the national economy as well.

For his part, Kilombero MP Abdu Mteketa said Kilombero was lucky to have had a leader of the calibre of Ndikilo and that Mwanza region was lucky to have gotten him as their new RC.
