Indian businessmen to invest in rice production in Mali

Bamako, Mali (PANA) – To actualize the terms of an agreement signed in January 2010 between the Malian government and the Indian firm, Angelique International, Indian businessmen are set to begin wok on rice farms in parts of northern Mali, PANA learnt at the end of a visit to Sabe and Sevare, in Mopti, by the Malian Agricultural minister, Baba Barthe.

The Indian investments in that area are part of the partnership between African and Asian countries aimed at boosting the production of rice through the expansion of arable lands and the improvement of the processing and conservation channels.

The project is financed by the India-based Eximbank.

When completed, the project will produce 5 to 7 tons of rice per hectare.
